Tim Fox scored on an overthrow after stealing third in the sixth inning, which proved to be the difference as Laser Pros International got by Rhinelander Green 3-2 Friday night at Stafford Field.
Laser Pros jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, but Rhinelander Green crawled back in a briskly played game and tied it in the sixth after Joe Schneider singled and scored.
Fox and Isaac Bixby, still age eligible in the under 16 league, led off with a single and an error in the bottom of the first for Laser Pros, and both came around to score. Rhinelander green got a run back in the second as Quinn Lamers reached on an error and scored on a ground out.
Fox picked up the win in relief for Laser Pros, retiring the final six batters he faced following Schneider's leadoff hit in the sixth. He worked out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth and allowed a run on three hits with a strikeout and a walk in relief of Jesse Mahner, who allowed an unearned run on a hit over three innings.
Lamers took the loss for Rhinelander Green, allowing a run on two hits over the final two innings. Schneider started and allowed only one hit over four innings.
Offense was hard to come by for both teams. Fox collected two of the four hits for Laser Pros, with the other two base knocks belonging to Ben Sinclair and Ian Miller. Rhinelander Green also collected four hits in the game - one each from Schneider, Lamers, Ryan Jamison and Caleb Shefveland.
Both teams opened their season the night before, with Laser Pros blanking Eagle River Red 10-0 at Stafford Field while Rhinelander Green snuck by Three Lakes 6-5 in Three Lakes.
In Prep League play, Rhinelander Green improved to 2-1 on the year Thursday with a 15-3 win over Lakeland Black in Minocqua on Thursday. Rhinelander Black was 1-1 following a 8-6 loss to Crandon on Wednesday.
Both Rhinelander Prep teams were in action Monday, with Black at Lakeland Black and Green hosting Lakeland Gray. Rhinelander Black hosts Eagle River on Wednesday. Both Senior League teams are on the road this evening, with Laser Pros traveling to Three Lakes and Rhinelander Green at Eagle River Red.
