Snowshoe Park was the host when the Snowhawks took on a combined team featuring many players from Fritz's Bar.
Wisconsin Public Service Local 420, the scheduled opponent for the evening, was not able to make it because of this past weekend's storm damage. The Snowhawks won 17-10.
Three straight hits started the top of the first which included two runs. John Otteson capped it off with a sacrifice fly and the make-up Fritz's Bar team led 2-0.
"We knew this could have been a really good game, they started out hammering the ball good," explained player-coach Jeff smith. "But it's fun to play these guys."
The Snowhawks had their turn in the bottom half of the inning. Back-to-back-to-back doubles tied the game up at two apiece.
Fritz's Bar went down with no runs and it was back to the Snowhawks. With two runners on, Nick Merckx singled and scored followed by Billy Kuckkahn driving in a run and scoring. It was 6-2 Snowhawks.
Later, Donny Moore doubled home Smith and it was 7-2 Snowhawks. They were firing on all cylinders. Because of the five-run rule, the inning ended.
"Offense seemed to be on tonight, balls were falling in the right directions this time," Smith said.
One run did come across for Fritz's Bar when Nick Petterle singled and came home to score. Jeff Ziamba also singled, but was thrown out on a fielder's choice. The score was 7-3 Snowhawks.
Trying to extend their lead, Brent Cella and Cole Punches both singled. Derek Young and Dustin Schowalter also singled, bringing home a couple runs. They were relentless all night and led 9-3.
Todd Christanson and Joey Marshal both scored in the top of the fourth and it was now 9-5. A double play prevented Fritz's Bar from scoring more runs.
"The field was really fast tonight, ball had a funny skip to it and it caused a few problems here and there," Smith said. "But, overall, I think our defense did alright, we got a few double plays."
Brent Cella, the hero of the Snowhawks' extra-innings win over Dazzle's Demons two weeks ago, did it again. With two runners on, he hit a drive to center field that got by everyone as he rounded the bases for an easy inside-the-park home run, pushing the score to 12-5.
It didn't take long before the Snowhawks were back up to bat in the fifth. The highlights came when Gunner Dunbar and Todd Niemuth both singled and scored. Niemuth also drove a run in and it was 16-5.
The seventh inning was Fritz's Bar best by far. They scored five runs total. Petterle and Tanner Lopez started it off with singles. The big hit of the inning came from Christanson when he doubled home some runs. The score was 16-10.
One more run scored for the Snowhawks off a sacrifice fly by Jacob Hodgdon, scoring Paul Miller. They won the game 17-10.
"[There was] a lot of gaps tonight which is a lot nicer than what we've had in the past," Smith said. "I was pleased with the offense tonight, nice hard hits."
The Snowhawks next game is Monday, July 29 when they play the Coaching All-Stars at Snowshoe Park starting at 7:30 p.m.
