Karen Kay Johnson, 75, of Monico, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019 at her home with her family at her side. She had multiple sclerosis for over 30 years and was cared for by her loving husband until the time of her passing. Karen was born in Crandon on Thursday, Sept. 30, 1943, the daughter of Richard L. and Delores O. (Cronce) Tyrell. She grew up in the Crandon area and was a 1961 graduate of Crandon High School. She met her future husband, William L. Johnson, they dated for awhile and then were married in Center City, Minn. on Nov. 4, 1961. They lived in Monico and were blessed with five children. Karen, for a time, was a school bus driver for the Monico/Three Lakes School District, a dental assistant and later was employed as a seeder with the consolidated ursery. She was a member of a women's bowling league in Rhinelander. Karen was very passionate and was well known and very talented with ceramic painting. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, macramé, watching the Game Show Network, listening to Charlie Pride, watching the hummingbirds and baking bread. Karen also enjoyed celebrating the holidays, especially Christmas, Easter and Halloween, going to her grandma's home, attending the Brush Run and cheering on Evan Evans who gave her much inspiration and traveling to Mole Lake to play Bingo.

She will be remembered for always having a smile on her face and the love and care she gave to everyone. Karen will be dearly missed by her husband, Bill; children, Tammy (Kim) Pederson of Clam Lake, Todd Johnson and fiancé; Jenny Aldag of Pelican Lake, Teresa (Dan) Bruso of Rhinelander, Trent (Mitzi) Johnson of Rhinelander and Tracy Johnson of Menomonee, Wis.; 12 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and two grand dogs: Nathan, Joshua, Nicholas, Connor, Jaime, Benjamin, Hunter, Vance, Katie, Lacie, Allie, Zoie, Maverick, Cash, Autumn and Jessica. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Maxwell, Riley, Gabe and Shelby; brother, Richard Tyrell of Mountain, Wis.; sisters, Wendy (Joseph) Linsmeyer of Seymour, Tina (Kenneth) Van Boxtel of Tomahawk, and a brother-in-law, Gary Baumann of Kentucky. Karen is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson Jake in 1987 and by a sister; Midge Baumann. The visitation for Karen will take place on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the Hildebrand Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until the noon memorial service. Immediately following the memorial service, there will be a procession to Monico Cemetery for the committal service.
