Big John facing additional felony charges; murder weapon-related burglary case still pending

Buddy Maurice Big John, 21, Lac du Flambeau, a convicted felon not allowed to have guns, was taken into custody last week after local police were alerted he may be in possession of a firearm.
Big John has previous felony convictions for resisting an officer/battery, manufacture/delivery of narcotics and bail jumping in Marathon and Vilas counties in 2016.
According to the criminal complaint, Big John was found at a Lac du Flambeau residence in possession of 2.0 grams of methamphetamine and 29 grams of fentanyl along with several plastic baggies with white residue. After a warrant-issued search of his car, a Glock handgun - found to be stolen in 2017 from a Manitowish Waters resident - was found under the seat along with plastic manipulated straws, scales and weights often used for drug dealing, the police reports indicates.
"... (drug dealers) use these homemade measuring devices for weighing meth and selling," the report states.
Big John was taken into custody on a probation violation. Charges have been filed in Vilas County including possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, possession of amphetamine with intent and possession of narcotic drugs second offense, all as a repeat offender, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
An initial appearance is set there for this week.
In 2018, Big John, along with Richard Allen, 28, Dayna Mason, 28, and Joseph Cloud, 25, were arrested and charged with burglary with a dangerous weapon, theft and possession of a firearm as a felon, all felonies with modifiers of a habitual criminality and party to a crime.
Big John previously pled not guilty before Judge Michael Bloom to those charges. He was set for a two-day jury trial this week, but that proceeding has been canceled and a status hearing is set for Friday.
The Lake Tomahawk burglary occurred in December 2017. Stolen were a video game console, video games and a 9 mm semi-automatic gun that would weeks later be used by Allen and Joseph Lussier, 27, in the homicide of Wayne Valliere, Jr., in Iron County, which involved three other men. Allen and Lussier were convicted of murder and sent to life in prison last summer.
Special prosecutors in the case against all cases against the men are state assistant general attorneys Richard Dufour and Chad Verbeten.
