"As the last home meet of the season and the last meet before Divisionals, I couldn't be more proud of the entire Rhinelander Swim Club," club head coach Megan Cihla said. "Everyone continued to work towards their goals and fight to do the best they could. This meet was used to showcase each swimmer's strengths and also possibly discover new, unknown strengths.
"Phoebe Moran had one of the hardest lineups put together and never once stopped smiling. After each race, her positive attitude continued to shine as she told me she wouldn't mind swimming those events again."
Highlights of the meet included club records set by Dean Gillingham in the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley.
Emma Houg (200 freestyle), Zach King (50 backstroke) and Jack Antonuk (200 individual medley), posted state-qualifying times during the meet.
"Dean Gillingham swam new events and walked away with two new club records," Cihla said. "Emma Houg had the race of her life in the 200 freestyle, dropping six seconds, to make her first ever state cut. Zacha King had been chasing down the state cut in his 50 backstroke, to finally surpass the cut not once but twice.
"There were so many standout swims, with these only being a few. These great swims will only help motivate these swimmers to continue their hard work as we finish out our season over the next couple of weeks. I look forward to what the end of the season has in store for us."
The team competed in the CWSC Eastern Divisional meet this past Saturday and Sunday in Tomahawk. Look for results in this Saturday's River News. Those who qualified will move on to the CWSC championship meet Saturday and Sunday at Lakeland Union High School in Minocqua.
