On Feb. 19, Ripco Credit Union representatives Casey Mayo and Diane Sowinski presented a check for $700 to Rhinelander Area Food Pantry representatives Ginger Chrobak, Chris Kott, Jane Motowski and Guy Hansen, and UW-Extension FoodWIse Coordinator Karly Harrison. The donation was the result of a Food Drive Challenge conducted in January, when Ripco offered to provide a $1.00 cash donation match (up to $500) for each pound of food collected at their Rhinelander branch office, according to an RAFP press release. The goal was exceeded and supplemented by an anonymous donor, whose $100 gift was also matched by RIPCO and brought the total to $700. The announced closure of Petco and the partial government shutdown prompted the drive. In the release, RAFP officials stated they are deeply grateful for the continued support.
