Children and their families enjoyed several activities at Saturday's inaugural Yeti Fest, before Mother Nature dumped even more snow on the Northwoods.

"This champagne powder is perfect for Yeti Fest," said Terry Rutlin, communications specialist at Nicolet College. "I personally really liked it. I thought it was a nice touch for Yeti Fest out here today."

More than a dozen activities were available to both kids and adults, both indoors and out.

They included snowman making and decorating, making yeti masks, various types of games, a YMCA obstacle course in the snow, sledding, live music, human sled dog racing and human foosball. There was also a warming fire with a nice view of the frozen lake.

Erin Buss enjoyed playing in the snow with her family.

"It's fun, get the kids outside, active, it's a good time so far. We've only been sledding and making partial snowmen and having a snowball fight," she said.

Barb Robinson attended Yeti Fest with five of her seven grandchildren.

"It's amazing," she said. "It's great entertainment for the kids, especially on a day like today when the snow's piling up and there's not much to do."

The first thing her energetic grandchildren did was attempt to capture the elusive yeti.

"In fact, when we first got here they were chasing the yeti around and trying to catch him so that was kind of fun for them," Robinson said.

She hopes Nicolet and the others involved in this event will hold it again next year, she added.

"You can see they put a lot of hard work into it but unfortunately we can't predict the weather, but I think all in all they're going to have a good turnout," she said.

Evelyn Juedes, Robinson's granddaughter, said the event was "good."

She made a mask, played some games and planned to going sledding later in the day.

Rutlin said the plan is to hold Yeti Fest again next year.

"It's a great community event," he said. "We had a number of great partners that were not only willing but quite eager to help us out with this."

CT's Deli, BC Cakes & More, Brigitte Bakes, Rhinelander Brewery and Nicolet's Bytes Cafe provided food and beverages.

Sponsors included NRG Media, NBC 12 WJFW, YMCA of the Northwoods, Northwoods Innovation, Eagle River Children's Museum, and the Grow North Economic Development Corporation.

"It was really neat to see so many groups come together to pull this off and make it a success," Rutlin noted.
