Swim club wins CWSC divisional meet
"The kids overcame a lot of obstacles this meet to pull off the title of Divisional Champions for the 3rd straight year," RSC coach Megan Chila said. "This meet is no longer about the individual races. It is about the team and working together as a team. Athletes were there to support their friends if they had off races and most importantly, every event we swam in, we had athletes at the end of the lane, cheering on the swimmer in the water. Seeing this type of teamwork is always the highlight of mine."
In total, 54 Hodag swimmers are moving on to the conference championship meet, which will be held today and tomorrow at Lakeland Union High School in Minocqua. To qualify to swim at CWSC Championship meet, swimmers had to place in the top nine for individual events and top six for relay team events.
There were some other milestones reached by the club at the meet. Vivian Lamers posted state-qualifying times in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100 freestyle, Mathias Fugle and Sophia Miljevich posted state-qualifying times in the 50 freestyle and the team of Jack Antonuk, Marcus O'Malley, Charlie Heck and Daniel Gillingham set a new club record for 13- and 14-year-olds in the 200 freestyle relay.
"These great swims by RSC, along with the many others, has really shown these athletes what they can accomplish," Cihla said. "I look forward to what the Conference Championship meet has in store for us this coming weekend."
