Half-court shot contest in full swing for hoops season
The RASF half-court shot has been a staple at Rhinelander High School basketball games for years. Associated Bank returns as the sponsor of the contest this year and has donated another $1,000 to the foundation.
The half-court shot is held only during boys' basketball contests. The RASF will conduct a 50/50 raffle during each regular season home girls' basketball game. As it has in previous seasons, the foundation will also conduct 50/50 raffles in addition to the half-court shot during home Hodag boys' basketball games.
Tickets for the half-court shot contest will be sold during each home boys' basketball game at the Jim Miazga Community Gym. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5.
Two tickets will be drawn at halftime. The lucky contestants will first attempt a free throw and will receive $5 if they make it. Then they will step back to the 3-point line to attempt to make a shot for $10. Regardless of the outcome of the free throw or the 3-pointer, the contestants will then step back to the time line and attempt to drain a 47-footer for the jackpot, which will start at $100 and increase each night it is not claimed.
Tickets for the 50/50 raffle are $1 each or six for $5 with the winner taking home half the pot.
Proceeds from the contests benefit the RASF, a non-profit charitable organization that raises money for scholarships for Rhinelander students. Since 1991, the foundation alone has awarded $332,350 in scholarships to 392 students, with amounts ranging from $500 to $1500.
