Eleanor was born Nov. 11, 1922, in Graceville, Minn., the daughter of George and Julia (Swanberg) Erickson. She was united in marriage in September of 1979, in Markesan, to William Dixon Sr. and he preceded her in death July 22, 2009.
Surviving Eleanor are her daughter, Susan (David) Selby, Phelps; sons, Tom (Charlotte) Chariton, Sugar Camp; Jack (Denise) Chariton, Rhinelander; daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Chariton, McAllen, Texas; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William; sons, Gary and Larry Chariton; sisters, Florence and Doris.
Eleanor lived the first half of her life in Rhinelander and was a Red Cross volunteer during World War II. She held various jobs over the years, including retail sales at DeByles, but her primary focus was being a supportive wife and a loving and attentive mother to her five children. Later in life she re-located to Argonne and became a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Eleanor had a strong spirit and maintained a positive outlook through good times and bad; a trait that made her a joy to be around.
Eleanor's family thanks the staff at Rennes for their wonderful care during her residence there and their personal concern during her last days.
Private services were held. Burial and a celebration of life with family and friends will be held in the spring.
