Alvin was born Friday, Feb. 11, 1927, in Rhinelander, the son of Anton and Helga (Eide) Johnson. He grew up in Rhinelander and was a 1945 graduate of Rhinelander High School. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1945. He proudly served his country for four years. After the war he returned to Rhinelander where he was united in marriage on June 10, 1950 to Loretta Ann Stefonik at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was employed at Kirk's Bakery and Cleary's Dairy as a milk deliveryman. For 10 years Alvin was employed at the Rhinelander Paper Company working in the lab until his retirement at the age of 62.
Alvin was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. He was a past member of the Wednesday evening and Thursday evening Horseshoe League for the Old Brick Inn and then for the River Street Tap.
Alvin enjoyed watching the Packers, any type of fishing, camping and campfires, the outdoors, traveling, making wine, dogs and animals, watching "Star Trek" and spending time in his workshop.
He is survived by his wife Loretta; two sons, James and Paul, both of Rhinelander; grandson, Dustin Johnson of Minnesota, daughter-in-law Karen Johnson of Lake Forest, Minn. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his children, Jody, Tommy, Mary and David Johnson; one grandson, Josh Johnson, and by four brothers and two sisters.
The visitation for Alvin will take place on Friday, Dec. 13, 2019 at the Hildebrand Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. memorial service. Inurnment will take place in the spring at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Cemetery.
