Tom was born in Milwaukee on Monday, Dec. 18, 1939, the son of Elmer W. and Monica M. (Moore) Wakely. He served in the United States Army and had Top Secret Security Clearance in the 519th. Military Intelligence Unit.
After returning from the Army, Tom was employed at the Rhinelander Paper Mill from 1965 until his retirement in 1998. He also had his own detective agency from 1976 until 1982.
He was a member of St. Kunegunda of Poland Catholic Church and was a staunch Pro-Life supporter through the Knights of Columbus and through the Catholic Church.
Tom enjoyed writing songs and had one hundred of them copywritten. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling and spending time at the cottage on the Wisconsin River.
He is survived by his children: Michael Wakely of Rhinelander, Christine (Bob) Nelson of Merrill, Mitchell Wakely of Rhinelander, Christopher Wakely of Antigo, Jess Wakely of Wausau, Jessica (Mike) Rygg of Shawano, Ann (Kyle) LaDean of Starks, Victoria (Jeff) Pacrath of New London and John Wakely of Rhinelander. Also surviving are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters; Katie Gibbs of Lebanon, Ore. and Gloria Biesik of Rhinelander and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother James, sister Pat Palm, brothers-in-law, Woodsie Gibbs and Peter Biesik.
The visitation for Tom will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019 at St. Kunegunda of Poland Catholic Church located at 6895 Highway 17 North, Sugar Camp from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Fr. Bala Reddy Allam will be officiating. Immediately following the Funeral Mass all are invited to attend the Committal Service at St. Kunegunda of Poland Catholic Cemetery.
