Auditions for Nicolet Players' 'The Art of Dining' set for Sept. 9, 10
"It's a crazy comedy with all of these quirky characters who find themselves all together at this high-end restaurant," Nicolet College Theatre director Jim Nuttall said in a press release announcing the auditions. "It's slapstick zaniness and a delicious example of how not to act and what not to talk about while dining at a fancy restaurant."
Auditions will take place at 7 p.m. each night, Monday and Tuesday Sept. 9 and 10, in the Nicolet College Theatre in the Lakeside Center on the Rhinelander campus.
"As always, everyone is welcome to audition," the release states. "Those interested do not need any acting experience and they do not need to be Nicolet students. No preparation is required, but actors are typically better prepared if they have read the script beforehand. Interested individuals need to audition only one night but many elect to attend both nights."
Scripts are available for a three-day checkout from the service desk on the third floor of the Richard J. Brown Library.
Roles will be available for three men and six women ranging in age from their 20s to 60s.
Written by Broadway playwright Tina Howe, the story tells the tale of Cal and Ellen, a married couple who put their life savings, reputations, and marriage on the line to open The Golden Carousel.
The rest of the cast are diners including three longtime girlfriends who lack filters at one table, a neurotic author and brash publisher at another, and an over-the-top couple who live for culinary exuberance.
"This is a great show for anyone who has always wanted to be in a play but hasn't taken the leap yet," Nuttall said. "Many of the roles in this play are in short scenes, and the parts aren't as daunting as major roles can be."
Cast members in major roles must be available for rehearsals from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. probably four nights a week Sept. 11 to Nov. 7.
Those with smaller roles will have fewer rehearsals and not as much of a time commitment.
Public performances are scheduled for Nov. 8 to 10 and 14 to 17, with Sunday performances at 2 p.m. and all others at 7:30 p.m.
More information, including a detailed list of characters, is available at nicoletlive.com or by contacting Nuttall at 715-365-4476 or [email protected].
