ArtStart art gallery's fall exhibition, "Diego and Frida: A Smile in the Middle of the Way' opens Thursday and will run through Nov. 2.

"This photography collection captures the marriage of artists, Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo," according to an ArtStart press release. "Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter known for her self-portraits, and was celebrated internationally as an emblem of Mexican national and indigenous traditions. Diego Rivera was the most visible figure in Mexican muralism, a large-scale public-art initiative in the 1920s."

To celebrate the opening of the exhibit, which is being held in cooperation with the Consulate of Mexico in Milwaukee, two representatives from the consulate visited Rhinelander Tuesday.

Deputy Consul Karina Blas and Norma Sanchez Arellanes joined ArtStart representatives in viewing the exhibit.

A closing reception for this exhibit will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 26. Donations are suggested in lieu of an admission fee.

Also on exhibit at ArtStart this fall is "The Masters' Apprentices: The Nemeth Art Center's Gabor and Edith Nemeth Study Collection."

"The collection includes early European paintings, some of which date back to the 16th Century painted by students of well-known masters like Rembrandt, Rubens and Bosch," according to an ArtStart press release.

ArtStart is located in former Federal building at 68 S. Stevens St. in Rhinelander.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
