Central Wisconsin River Series takes on Lake Mohawksin

This was the fourth and final stop for the series before its two-day championship on the Lake Minocqua Chain next month. The first three stops were on the Stevens Point Flowage in May, the Willow Flowage in June and, most recently, Boom Lake in July.
The top 36 teams after this past weekend's event, including the series 2018 championship team, will be invited to the championship in Minocqua in September.
When weigh-in concluded, only four fish over four pounds crossed the scales, but 13 fish over the three-pound mark also made their way to Sara Park in Tomahawk as part of a team's total. In all, 172 fish were brought in by the 41 teams. A total weight of 395.56 brought the average per fish to approximately 2.3 pounds.
The team of Pat Kilbey and Justin Borski bested the field with a 15.87 pound five-fish limit anchored by what would wind up to be big smallmouth of the tournament at 4.52 pounds. Todd Holtman and Joe Heitschmidt took second place with a 15.38 pound bag, which included the tournament's biggest largemouth at 4.96. Brothers Dan and Matt Hirman placed third with an even 14 pounds. Fourth place went to Gunnar Tessmer and Michael Perkins and their 13.93 pound limit of fish. Jay Przekurat and Dylan Minch rounded out the top five with 13.55 pounds.
Sixth through tenth place were separated by less than a pound, as were 11th through 19th. Each place is awarded a specific number of points from each tournament. Those points will be tallied to make the determination as to which teams will compete in Minocqua next month.
In the coming weeks, teams will receive invitations to the championship based on how they finished the year in total points. Teams may opt out of fishing the championship, but many are already looking forward to fishing the Minocqua Chain.
Many teams enjoy the challenge of those "game day decisions," which may propel them to head to Lake Tomahawk in search of big bronzebacks or keep them on Lake Minocqua targeting big green fish.
Headquarters for the tournament will be The Beacons of Minocqua. Anglers will be allowed to fish the entire chain during both days of the championship.
The field will take off from the Beacons at first safe light both days and return for weigh-in at 3 p.m. The public is welcome to attend as anglers compete against each other and a sometimes finicky chain of lakes.
