20-year-old Antigo man accused of sexually assaulting girl, 13

According to court records, a criminal complaint was filed in Oneida County Circuit Court Aug. 9 charging Kyle J. Wetterau with sexual assault of a child under 16 and repeated sexual assault of a child.
According to the criminal complaint, the mother of the alleged victim brought a computer tablet to the Rhinelander Police Department on Aug. 2 which allegedly showed evidence of a conversation between the girl and Wetterau on Facebook Messenger in which they discussed multiple sexual encounters.
During the conversation, Wetterau allegedly used an alias account in the name of "Alex Valdimeir," the complaint states.
Later the same day, a Rhinelander police detective conducted an interview of the alleged victim during which time she allegedly admitted to having sex with Wetterau three or four times and that he knew she was only 13.
The detective interviewed Wetterau Aug. 8 at the Langlade County Sheriff's Department. According to the complaint, he admitted using Messenger to converse with the girl under his own account but denied doing so using the alias account. He claimed the alias account had not been used in a while. He also alleged that someone used the alias account to "set him up."
Throughout the interview, Wetterau continued to deny that he sex with the alleged victim.
The detective placed Wetterau under arrest at the end of the interview and he was transported to the Oneida County jail.
At his initial appearance Aug. 9 before judge Patrick O'Melia, his public defender Elizabeth Svehlek argued for a signature bond.
O'Melia set a $7,500 signature bond in the case with conditions that Wetterau have no contact with the alleged victim or anyone else under the age of 18 except for direct family members.
The case was set for a preliminary hearing Sept. 25.
Each of the charges carries a maximum fine of up to $100,000 and up to 40 years in prison upon conviction.
