Four members of the Rhinelander Swim Club recently took part in the Wisconsin Long Course State championships. To qualify for the event, swimmers had to reach or exceed posted time criteria in their respective events during the course of the season.

Three members of the club were in Pleasant Prairie for the 12 and Under state championship July 26-28. Makenna Winnicki competed in the 13 and over state championship held Aug. 1-4 in Brown Deer. The four swimmers swam under the Northern Lakes Aquatic Club banner.

Samson Shinners and Vivian Lamers each competed in six events at the 12U state championships. Shinners scored a pair of top 10 finishes, taking fifth in the boys' 11-12 200-meter freestyle (2 minutes, 22.12 seconds) and seventh in the boys' 11-12 400 freestyle (5:08.13). Additionally, Shinners was 11th in the 100 freestyle (1:06.30), 13th in the 200 individual medley (2:50.23) and the 400 individual medley (6:08.59), and 19th in the 100 butterfly (1:20.60).

Lamers scored a seventh-place finish in the girls' 10 and under 50 breaststroke (45.44), was 15th in both the 50 butterfly (39.19) and 100 breaststroke (1:43.48), 17th in the 100 butterfly (1:37.84), 22nd in the 100 freestyle (1:19.47) and 24th in the 50 freestyle (35.61).

Ella Heck swam in three events, taking sixth overall in the girls' 10 and under 50 breaststroke (44.83). She finished 18th in the 100 breaststroke (1:44.61) and 50th in the 50 freestyle (38.51).

Winnicki competed in one event at the 13 and over state championships, taking 46th in the women's 100-meter backstroke (1:11.01). To qualify for the event, swimmers had to reach or exceed posted time criteria in their respective events during the course of the season.
