After all was said and done, the Snowhawks emerged victorious 22-6.
After the All-Stars went down in order in the first inning, the Snowhawks were up to bat.
Back-to-back hits by Jacob Hodgdon and Cole Punches started the inning off right. Gunner Dunbar also singled and three runs scored. It was a quick 3-0 start.
"Right from the start we kind of answered back and they had a few errors here and there that got through. We put on a hitting clinic after that, a lot of sharp hits, long balls, balls hit in the right places," player-coach Jeff Smith explained.
It was time for the All-Stars to put together their own inning in the second. Two hits by Travis Syverson and Sid Hunter scored two and it was 3-2. The Snowhawks didn't score in the second and it was the All-Stars turn in the third.
Matt Kreagar started it off with a single. That was followed by a Dom Caroselli single and they were in business. But it was the Snowhawks' defense that was stout, turning a double play off the bat of Ian Schwanda. No runs scored.
"They hit to our guys a lot. We had a few double plays that got out of a few innings," Smith said. "They could not convert on any of those baserunners that they had."
The Snowhawks were back to their usual tricks in the bottom of the third. Derek Young and Billy Kuckkahn drove in runs and the Snowhawks extended their lead to 6-2.
Michael Wilhelm scored the lone run for the All-Stars in the top of the fourth and the score was 6-3.
In the bottom of the fourth, both Dustin Schowalter and Todd Niemuth got into the action with a couple of hits of their own. They rounded the bases to score and four runs scored. The Snowhawks led 10-2.
"It looked like everyone got a few hits, even down to the end of the night," Smith said.
The fifth inning was the big one. Dunbar hit a home run and a total of five runs were scored. Schowalter added in a sacrifice fly and it was 15-2 Snowhawks.
The Coaching All-Stars had been quiet offensively for awhile, but they were able to put something together in the seventh inning.
Todd Christianson hit a double. Caroselli and Schwanda both singled and the All-Stars were in business. Wade Wentland singled as well and three runs came home to score.
"I really thought this was going to be a barnburner to the end," Smith said.
The Snowhawks scored their final runs in the bottom of the seventh. Nick Merckx scored two runs on his third hit of the ballgame. Everything came together and the Snowhawks won 22-6.
