Bill was born in Rhinelander on Friday, Nov. 15, 1935, the son of Louis and Mae (Pence) Belongia. He grew up in Rhinelander and was a 1953 graduate of Rhinelander High School.
He enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country for 20 years. He was also employed for 13 years with the Rhinelander Paper Company and his final employment was with Hardware Hank.
Bill was united in marriage to Marion Spafford on July 21,1999 in Rhinelander. The couple just celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary on July 21, 2019.
Bill was an active member with the Ray Rousseau V.F.W. Post 3143, Rhinelander. He had also been a past Boy Scout Leader.
Bill enjoyed traveling with Marion and spending time with family. He also enjoyed military history and was very proud to have participated in the Honor Flight.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Marion; children, Robert "Bob" (Nanette) Belongia, of Green Bay, Michael Belongia of Green Bay; stepchildren, John (Mary) Spafford of Rhinelander, Brian (Ellen) Spafford of Rhinelander, Glenda (Dan) Roesler of Rhinelander. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and one brother, Jim (Mary) Belongia of Virginia. Bill is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; second wife Lois Belongia, son Richard Belongia and a brother, John Belongia.
The committal service for Bill will take place on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, at 1 p.m. at Northland Memorial Park with Dn. Dick Meier officiating and where full military honors will be conducted by the Ray Rousseau V.F.W. Post 3143 and by two representatives from the United States Navy.
