The Vilas County Amateur Radio Club, Inc. completed a six-week amateur radio class culminating with an examination session Tuesday, March 26 at the Vilas County Economic Incubator in Eagle River. The class was designed to prepare students for the examination for Technician Class License issued by the Federal Communication Commission (FCC), organizers said in a press release.

Rick Johnson of Eagle River, Marvin Anderson of St. Germain, Jim Bonson of Conover and Colleen McKenzie of Monico, successfully passed the examination for the technician class license issued by the Federal Communications Commission. Jerald McKenzie passed his examination for extra class license, the highest amateur radio class level available.

The class included basic electricity, modulation theory, wave propagation, operating procedures, rules and regulations and safety and. Although very fast paced, it was designed for students motivated to earn their FCC license.

Club members Dr. Rich Reinhart, Roger Schutt, and Paul Clay taught the course. Volunteer examiners Clay, Schutt, Reinhart, and Mike Nies administered the examinations.

The examination results have been sent in and graduates should receive their new licenses within a few weeks, Clay said.

Anyone interested in becoming a licensed radio amateur should contact Clay at [email protected] or 715-891-0157.
