Aaron Kraemer has been hired by the district to lead the Hodag football team, the River News has confrimed.
A press conference to announce the decision was to be held Wednesday afternoon after the deadline for today's edition.
Kraemer has been on the RHS coaching staff since 2014, serving as the team's offensive coordinator each of the last two seasons. He is also the head track and field coach at RHS. Prior to coming to Rhinelander, he was the tight ends coach at Lakeland University, a small NCAA Division III school in Plymouth, Wis.
The district interviewed five finalists for the coaching vacancy on Tuesday.
"We're excited that we have made a decision that Aaron Kraemer will be the next football coach of Rhinelander High School," Rhinelander High School activities director Brian Paulson told the River News prior to the press conference.
Kraemer succeeds Chris Ferge, whose football coaching contract was non-renewed in late November following a 9-34 tenure at RHS that included a 2-28 record in the Great Northern Conference.
"I would like to thank Kelli Jacobi, Brian Paulson, Shane Dornfeld, the Rhinelander High School Staff and students for the opportunity to be the next Football Coach at Rhinelander High School," Kraemer wrote in a message to the River News ahead of Wednesday's official announcement. "I'd also like to thank my wife, my daughter, my family, and friends for their support through the interview process. I am ecstatic to be able to take the next step into the future with the players, families, and the community as the next coach of Hodag Football. We will focus on building a base of character and leadership, while following the School District vision and doing it the Hodag Way."
The River News will have more on Kraemer's hiring in Saturday's edition.
