Ripco 'Run Back to School' and playscape dedication bring community to CAVOC
The Run Back to School 5K+ Run/Walk, sponsored by Ripco Credit Union, kicked off with a mascot race similar to the Milwaukee Brewers' sausage races.
"Participants included the bear and the bumblebee from Ripco, Scoopie from Culver's, the Y Guy from the YMCA, the Lakeland Thunderbird and the beloved Hodag from RHS," according to a school district press release. "The Thunderbird won the race, with the Hodag placing second. Spectators had the opportunity to predict the winner. Correct predictions were awarded with free ice cream from Culver's and a YMCA day pass! Approximately 70 participants took part in the run/walk. The hilly and curvy course proved to be a difficult one, but everyone enjoyed the challenge."
First place finishers by division were: Jennifer Kasparek (adult female), Dave Slette (adult male), Maria Hubler (youth female) and Olin Slette (youth male).

In addition to the races, the School Forest Advisory Council used this time to dedicate the new playscape area. This is a special area designed for young students to explore their creativity and to nurture a love for the outdoors. Many volunteers gave of their time to see the playscape project come to fruition. The children in attendance loved this new area, and the school district is excited to use it for future groups that visit CAVOC, the release states.
