"Grandparents Day has become a tradition at Central Intermediate School," according to a district press release. "This day was a chance for students to have a special adult at their school attend student classes, take a break for recess, and head to the lunchroom where the Parent Advisory Committee provided sub sandwiches, chips and drinks. Grandparents Day validates for students the importance of having these special people from a different generation in their lives."
In classrooms, grandparents and loved ones figured out math worksheets, played math and word games, conducted interviews and discussed what life was like when they were in fourth/fifth grade. Others worked on writing and brainstorming what it might be like when students become grandparents some day. Teachers tried to assimilate a normal school day for grandparents so they understand what a fourth- and fifth-grade education at the school entails.
