Sex offender to be released in Forest County

According to a Forest County sheriff's department press release, Jeffrey Levasseur is expected to be released Oct. 25 and will reside at 8901 Sand Lake Road in Crandon.
Levasseur, 52, was convicted of sexually assaulting a 7-year-old female acquaintance in Minnesota back in 1992. In Forest County, he was convicted of sexually assaulting a 6-year-old male acquaintance and a 11-year-old female acquaintance in 1999.
On April 4, 2008, Levasseur was committed under Chapter 980, the state's sexually violent persons law, the release states. In September 2016, the court ordered a Supervised Release Plan be developed for Levasseur. On Oct. 2, a hearing was held and the Supervised Release Plan was approved. Upon release, Levasseur will be placed on intensive supervision, and will be subject to the Global Positioning System (GPS), the release states. He will be required to register with the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry Program for life.

"Sex offenders have always lived in our communities; but is was not until the WI Sex Offender Registry and Community Notification Law was enacted that law enforcement was able to share this information with the community," the release states. "Citizen abuse of this information to threaten, intimidate, or harass registered sex offenders will not be tolerated."
A community notification meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the County Board Room - Forest County Courthouse.
