Ascension Northwoods leader recognized as top critical access hospital executive
"Sandy is an accomplished leader with special expertise in rural health care and we congratulate her on this recognition," Debra Standridge, Regional President, North Region, Ascension Wisconsin, said in a press release announcing the honor. "The delivery of services to rural areas is challenging and Ascension's critical access facilities are key contributors to Wisconsin's long tradition of excellent care at CAHs."
CAHs are hospitals with fewer than 25 beds that provide essential services in rural areas. There are 58 CAHs in Wisconsin and nine leaders from the Badger State were represented on 2018 version of Top CAH CEOs to Know. Wisconsin had more CAH CEOs recognized by Becker's than any other state.
Ascension operates six CAHs in Wisconsin and Anderson is joined on the list by Jennifer Derks, Chief Administrative Officer at Ascension Calumet Medical Center, Chilton.
In developing the list, Becker's hailed those recognized for their efforts in leading organizations regularly recognized for patient safety and quality while holding a key role within their community, serving on corporate boards and state-level initiatives to improve access to care.
"This recognition would not be possible without the dedicated and compassionate care provided every day by our clinicians and associates," said Anderson. "We are driven by our mission and are blessed with a highly skilled staff whose efforts are tireless for the benefit of our patients and the community."
Anderson added that Ascension Sacred Heart and Ascension Eagle River are vital safety net hospitals for the communities they serve. This includes full time residents of the Northwoods and the many seasonal visitors that flock to the area as one of Wisconsin's premier vacation destinations. "We are also fortunate to have tremendous community support from our volunteers, board members and foundation supporters," said Anderson.
In addition to Ascension Sacred Heart and Ascension Eagle River, Anderson also provides executive leadership of Ascension St. Mary's Hospital, Rhinelander and Howard Young Medical Center, part of Ascension, Woodruff. She previously served in hospital leadership positions in Wisconsin and Ohio and holds a bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master's degree in Health Care Administration from Central Michigan University-Dayton Extension.
