Last week's cool temperatures and misting rain didn't deter vendors and shoppers from spending a lovely Northwoods day at the park. Once again, because this is northern Wisconsin, everyone was dressed warmly.
There was a festival in a neighboring community which some of the market vendors signed up for, but there were still 10 or more vendors for the Hodag Farmers' Market. One might think that there were fewer shoppers at our market, and there just might have been, but sales said otherwise.
Have you noticed most farmers' markets showcased in some summer publications show pictures from the warmer months and not when the temperatures dip low?
There's more produce available later in the season when long sleeves or a light jacket are necessary for a morning at the park.
It's a marketing ploy that makes people think markets are only for months that have 65 degree, or higher, days. Thus the reason why many think farmers' markets are finished after Labor Day.
This publication, the River News, is different. They'll post any market photo I send providing I select "best for Email" when I upload the photo.
Trial and error (many errors) has finally showed me not to send it "best for web".
Unfortunately, I didn't bring my camera to market last week so the photograph that accompanies this column is of my yard.
Come on down to Pioneer Park this Saturday, from 8 until 1, for the second to last market of the year.
