Freshmen Jakob Craig from Lakeland and Megan Lester from Three Lakes continue to be the state leaders in the Wisconsin High School Cycling League following the third race of the season.

Craig won his third straight race Sunday at Lowe's Creek in Eau Claire while Lester's runner-up finish kept her in the leader's white jersey with two races remaining in the season. Overall, the Rhinelander Northwoods Composite team placed third in Division 2 on Sunday while its companion Rhinelander High School squad was the runner-up in the Division 1 field.

Composite results

The RNC team, comprised of Lakeland and Three Lakes riders, continues to produce strong results with its small but talented roster of four riders - all of whom placed in the top four of their respective divisions.

Jakob Craig gapped La Crosse Central's Therin Smith to win the Division 2 freshman race by more than 44 seconds. As has been the case all season, Craig's two-lap time, was the fastest of any freshman in either Division 1 or Division 2 as he completed the course in 50 minutes, 41.6 seconds.

Jakob's older sister, Johanna, scored her third straight win in the elite girls' varsity division. The Lakeland junior once again finished behind Wausau's Lauren Lackman, completing an approximately 16-mile course in 1:18:28.6, roughly 3 1/2 minutes behind Lackman.

Megan Lester finished second to Fall Creek's Katie Kopp in the girls' freshman race. Her time of 59:36.1 was roughly 2:14 off the pace set by Kopp. Lester holds a 26-point lead over Kopp with two races remaining.

Lakeland's Grace Dorsey added a fourth-place finish in the girls' JV-2 race, completing two laps in 1:01:37.7.

Alexis Pyrchalla (1:28:49.5) was sixth in JV-3, Madesen Van Order was seventh in JV-2 (1:05:17.3), Gwyneth Lowry was 10th in JV-2 (1:08:55.4), Emma Hjelle was 11th in JV-3 (1:34:42.2) and Anna Wood placed 12th in the freshman category (1:12.30.6).

Sophomore Hugh Wiese led the Hodag boys with an eighth-place finish in the Division 1 JV-2 race. Freddy Wisner was ninth in the D1 JV-3 race (1:19.18.4), Bridger Flory was 16th in the varsity race (1:41:41.7) and Kyle Siefert was 24th in the D1 freshman race (1:15:38.1).

Helena Wisner (42:57.2) was 11th in the sixth-grade girls' race. Macy Lester, who had won the first two events for the sixth-grade girls, suffered mechanical issues with her bike and finished 13th (43:49.1).
