Peoples State Bank collects care package items for troops
The northern branches of the bank, located in Eagle River, Rhinelander, Minocqua and Wausau, collected 7,708 items, $672 (the monetary donations will go toward the cost of shipping the packages) and over 1,400 Christmas cards to be sent to those stationed abroad.
The donations included personal care items, socks, blankets and food. The local Military Support Group, led by co-founder LeRoy Eades, will package the items and ship them out to the troops.
"The response is just amazing," said Randy Winter, marketing specialist with Peoples State Bank. "When you tell people that there are veterans in need and there are soldiers that need a touch of Wisconsin, people come out in droves and they bring things in and it's a wonderful thing for them to donate and to help brighten the day of a veteran or solider."
"I think this is fabulous," said Eades, noting that the boxes should be shipped right after Thanksgiving and should reach the troops before Christmas. To make a donation to the Military Support Group, call 715-360-0433.
