Artist-in-Residence exhibit at Nicolet to raise money for student scholarships
Now she's using that experience to put together an art exhibit reflective of the 20-year adventure and one that will also raise money for student scholarships, the college announced in a press release.
Popp's Artist-in-Residence portfolio comprises a dozen different locations, including several national parks such as the Grand Canyon in Arizona, the Everglades in Florida, the Shenandoah in Virginia, and Acadia in Maine. Other stops included Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and the Porcupine Mountain State Wilderness, both in Michigan.
"It's been an amazing experience not only to create art but now also use it in a way that will benefit others," she said.
Pieces in her Residency Retrospective exhibit will be for sale, with 50 percent of all proceeds going to the Nicolet College Foundation for student scholarships, the release states.
"As an instructor who works closely with students, I see the strong desire they have to get a college education," Popp said. "I also see the financial strain many are under to make that dream a reality. Sales from the exhibit are one way to help ease their financial situation."
An opening reception for the exhibit will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, in the Nicolet College Art Gallery located in the Northwoods Center.
The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, will run through Friday, Dec. 21.
The gallery is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The 90 works in the exhibit include oil paintings, pastels, wood sculptures, acrylic paintings, and watercolors.
The Nicolet campus is located one mile south of Rhinelander just off of Hwy. G.
