Rhinelander teachers and counselor present at meeting of art educators
Art educators Brian Carpenter and Kim Martiny, as well as school counselor Carrie Shimkus, participated in the professional development opportunityOct. 25-26 in Wausau, according to a district press release.
Carpenter presented a hands-on session about clay maracas, the release states.
He shared his lesson plans, tips and tricks and overall classroom strategy for this particular project with dozens of art educators from around the state.
In addition to sharing his knowledge, Carpenter also gave attendees a chance to create a clay maraca of their own and led the group through the creating process.
Martiny and Shimkus co-presented a session on "Creating Calm through Creativity," a session designed around recognizing the importance of mental health while utilizing the arts as a tool for mindfulness.
Strategies shared included various simple art lessons that could be tailored to fit any K-12 age level, as well as identifying areas of mental health that particular projects could be useful for.
Session participants were also able to create one of these projects through step-by-step instruction.
"Both sessions were well attended and received great compliments from attendees," the release states. "A huge thank you to district administration for supporting this exciting opportunity for Art!"
