Rhinelander Nordic ski families had an opportunity to listen to one of the country's top coaches Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Byran Fish, a Rhinelander native and Cross Country Sport Development Manager for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team, spoke to those in attendance about the team culture the U.S. cross country ski team has built, which has resulted in recent international success - including the nation's first Olympic gold medal in Nordic skiing accomplished by Jessie Diggins and Kikkan Randall in the women's team sprint at the Pyeongchang Games.

"Even though we're an individual sport ... we work together and learn from one another," Fish said.

Fish also presented the team with an autographed poster of Diggins.

The Rhinelander high school and middle school teams will begin training for the upcoming season on Monday, with their first meet scheduled for Dec. 8 at the ABR Trails in Ironwood, Mich.
