"In the morning, staff and students visited Timm's Hill," tour leaders said in a press release. "We enjoyed driving through the backcountry roads during peak fall colors. Everyone hiked to the top of Timm's Hill and most of us made it to the top of the observation tower. It was amazing to see all the surrounding rural countryside from the elevation of 1,951 feet. We came down from the tower and took pictures by the marker located on the highest point in Wisconsin."
The NCES group continued its tour of Wisconsin landmarks and drove to the 45th and 90th parallel marker in Poniatowski.
The 45th and 90th parallel marks the center of the northern half of the western hemisphere.
"This specific center of a hemisphere is unique because most other centers are in the oceans," the release states. "Students signed the guestbook and receive a commemorative coin after visiting the marker. We even got a fun Wisconsin treat when we drove by Bletsoe's Cheese Factory and Mrs. Wendland decided we needed to stop for some fresh cheese curds. Our day visiting unique Wisconsin landmarks was paid for by Mrs. Wendland's Herb Kohl Foundation Award."
