YMCA announces winter league champs, registration for summer leagues
"The YMCA of the Northwoods would like to give a big thank you to all of the teams that participated in winter volleyball and basketball leagues at the Y," the organization stated in a press release. "Great competition made for fun and exciting games throughout the season.
"Also, congratulations to the champions for these volleyball and basketball leagues."
Woodpecker Bar and Grill, captained by Chad Westfahl, won the volleyball A-league title. Cross Country II, with captain Kristi Erikson, won the B-league crown.
Chanticleer Inn, with captain Jon Wergin and Pat's Tavern, with captain Chris Cook, took the Y's A- and B-league basketball crowns.
"Again, thank you for all that participated in this healthy living activity and congratulations to the winning teams," the Y stated.
This summer, the Y will run a call-your-own foul Basketball League. This league will begin on Wednesday, June 13, with games ranging from 6 to 9 p.m. A minimum of four-player teams will play full court up to 60 points.
The cost is $100 per team and registration deadline is Friday, June 8. There will be a seeded double elimination tournament to determine league champions, who will bring home Y Champion T-shirts.
