Nicolet College has presented its highest student honor to John Graetz and Brooke Berdan, naming each as a student ambassador for the 2018-19 academic year.

Selecting from an "incredibly talented and motivated group of nominees, John and Brooke rose to the top," Sara Tienhaara, student engagement and career development coach at Nicolet, said in a press release. "Both are very deserving and I'm sure will do a great job representing Nicolet."

Students are first nominated for the honor by a Nicolet staff member and then selected for the position after going through an interview process.

Graetz, an information technology student from Minocqua, will serve as the Nicolet District Student Ambassador and represent the college at Wisconsin Technical College System statewide events.

"I truly believe in service to others and have for a long time," said Graetz, who is involved in work-study at Nicolet. "This is another opportunity to do exactly that and I'm grateful for the opportunity."

He was nominated for the honor by Erika Warning, Nicolet's director of student enrollment.

"John is so knowledgeable about Nicolet and is always interested in learning more," Warning said in her nomination. "He just has this great can-do attitude and is eager to help everyone he can. He never takes himself too seriously but is always professional in his duties."

Graetz also serves as the student representative on the Nicolet College Board of Trustees.

On April 18, Graetz will join District Student Ambassadors from the 15 other colleges in the Wisconsin Technical College System for the state Ambassador Conference in Madison.

Berdan, a pre-nursing student, will serve as the Nicolet College Foundation Ambassador.

"Nicolet is such a great college and I want to do everything I can to support the college and the Foundation and to let everyone know about the many wonderful opportunities Nicolet offers individuals," said Berdan, valedictorian of the 2017 Crandon High School graduating class.

She was nominated for the honor by Travis Ling, a physiology and biology instructor at Nicolet.

"Brooke is as passionate about her own education as she is in assisting other students in achieving their goals," Ling wrote. "Her positive attitude permeates throughout the classroom. She is a great role model for other students."

In her duties as Foundation Ambassador, Berdan, a scholarship recipient herself, will inform students about scholarship opportunities available through the Foundation. She'll also meet with Foundation donors, sharing a student's perspective on what it's like attending Nicolet College.
