Both Francises competed in events held in back-to-back weekends in Pleasant Prairie - the USA Swimming Wisconsin State Championship Meet held March 1-4 and the USA Swimming Speedo Sectionals: 2018 Central Zone Section 1 Spring Championships held March 8-11.
In the state championship meet, Malia Francis won state titles in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events and finished second in the Women's 13-14 high point standings. Nolan Francis' program was highlighted by a runner-up finish in the 100 backstroke as he tied for seventh in the high points standings in the men's 15-16 age group.
At the Speedo Sectionals, Malia Francis won the 200-meter backstroke in the open division, placed third in the 100-meter backstroke and posted USA Swimming Winter Junior qualifying times in both events. Additionally, her time of 2:17.50 in the 200-meter back qualified her for the USA Swimming Winter Nationals and Summer Junior Nationals.
Nolan Francis posted a Winter Junior qualifying time in the 100-yard backstroke during the state championship meet.
