Rhinelander's Bloomquist wins state high school bowling championship
Bloomquist was the top qualifier for the stepladder finals, with a combined six-game total of 1,339 through qualification rounds Friday and Saturday nights at Dale's Weston Lanes. He took on Est in the finals, the third seed who defeated Middleton's Zach Thomas 192-190 in the semifinals.
Bloomquist led the entire way after Est had an open frame in the second. Bloomquist had a chance to close out the match with a double plus two pins in the 10th, but threw a seven-count on his second ball, opening the door for Est to take the title with three strikes in the 10th. That chance went away when Est left a standing 10-pin on his first ball of the 10th.
Bloomquist had five strikes and four spares in the title match. His only open frame came in the third, when he could not convert a 4-6-7 split.
