Animal lovers enjoyed a pasta dinner for a good cause Tuesday evening at the Hodag Banquet Center in Rhinelander.

The "Taste of Italy" dinner is an annual fundraiser for The Fix Is In, a low-cost spay and neutering clinic.

Karla Ortman, founder and board vice president for The Fix Is In, said the event typically raises $3,000 to $4,000.

This year's proceeds will be put toward targeted populations of animals the organization has been struggling to reach, she said.

Ashley Lundberg, a first-time attendee, enjoyed the event.

"It's pretty neat, good system, good raffle prizes," she said.

She hasn't had a pet treated by The Fix Is In, but when she does need to have a pet spayed or neutered she plans to use the clinic, she said.

"I've heard nothing but good stuff from them," she said.

Janice Bureta has attended every dinner for The Fix Is In.

"We just have a great time, the kids love the excitement of the raffles - the basket raffles, the paddle raffles," she said. "It's always a good time, it's a lot of fun. The food is always great and it's for a great cause, they work hard and they help so many animals and it's just so important."

The Buretas haven't had a pet fixed through The Fix Is In, but Janice spreads the word about the organization, follows it on social media and shares information about the clinics. She also designs posters and fliers for the organization for free.

Cindy Eckardt, another first-time attendee, was pleasantly surprised.

"I like it so far, people are friendly, lots of good prizes to win and the food smells great too," she said, adding that she had her eye on the Dandy Dog Grooming and Friendship House prizes.

The Fix Is In started its M*A*S*H-style clinic in 2012, and since then have spayed or neutered over 18,000 animals in northern Wisconsin.

The Fix Is In is a non-profit with paid staff.

"They are basically kind of specialists, because that's all they do, spay and neuter," Ortman said. "So they're very efficient at what they do and they are very good."
