Rhinelander Green's time to boast about being the lone undefeated team in the Northwoods Babe Ruth Senior League lasted exactly 24 hours.

A night after knocking off Eagle River 7-1 in a first-place battle at Stafford Field, Rhinelander Green was handed its first loss of the summer by intra-city counterpart Laser Pros International 6-4 on Friday night.

Nick Schiek and Tim Fox drew bases-loaded walks in the top of the seventh inning to break a 4-4 deadlock.

Rhinelander Green reliever Teagan Guckenberg ran into problems in the seventh, walking both Jacob Schoppe and Caleb Shefveland before hitting Michael Schramke with a pitch to load the bases with nobody out. Schoppe was cut down at the plate on a ground ball back to the mound by David Schramke, but Guckenberg walked Schiek to give Laser Pros the lead.

Devyn Orth came on in relief for Rhinelander Green and walked Fox to force in another run before inducing an inning-ending double play.

There would be no comeback in the bottom of the seventh as Laser Pros' Isaac Bixby mowed through Rhinelander Green in order to secure the win.

Rhinelander Green took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Walker Hartman beat a throw home off an infield grounder by Jordan Kuczmarski, but Laser Pros got the bats going in the fourth inning off Green team starter Jesse Mahner.

Held hitless through three innings, Schiek got the hit parade going with for Rhinelander Green a leadoff double in the fourth. Fox and Bixby made it back-to-back-to-back doubles to give Laser Pros the lead. Following a Joe Schneider sacrifice, Payton Johnson added a double and Alex Kubeny singled in a run to put Laser Pros ahead 4-1.

Rhinelander Green got two back in the bottom of the fourth as Guckenberg scored on a Mahner ground ball to short. Hartman also came around on the play thanks to a throwing error.

Guckenberg reached on a infield hit with two out in the sixth and stole second. Hartman tied the game on an RBI single up the middle.

Laser Pros outhit Rhinelander Green 7-4 in the contest, led by a 2-for-3 night with a pair of doubles by Fox. Bixby, Schneider, Johnson, Kubeny and Schiek also collect hits in the win. Hartman was 2-for-2 for Rhinelander Green. Ian Miller and Guckenberg had the team's only other hits.

Bixby pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief in the win for Laser Pros, allowing a run on two hits with a walk and a strikeout. Jacksen Smith started and allowed two earned runs on two hits with four strikeouts over 4 1/3.

Mahner lasted 3 1/3 in a no-decision for Rhinelander Green, allowing four runs on five hits - all in the fourth inning. Jordan Kuczmarski pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Guckenberg was saddled with the loss.

Rhinelander Green beats Eagle River

A night earlier, Rhinelander Green got a dazzling pitching performance from Quinn Lamers and enough help offensively to beat Eagle River 7-1 in a battle for first place in the Senior League.

Lamers gave up a run in the first inning, but held Eagle River down from there, pitching 6 1/3 innings before hitting Babe Ruth's 95-pitch maximum. Mahner came in to record the final two outs.

The Hodags tacked on three runs in the third inning to take the lead for good, and then added insurance with a run in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Ben Sinclair scored in the fifth to make it 4-1 after Eagle River misfired on a throw to third following a Jason Huseby groundout.

Mahner singled in a run in the sixth, Lamers added an RBI groundout and Hartman scored on a throwing error.
