Though the late/unusual/nonexistent spring threw a curve ball at everyone who planted gardens and are now having a delayed harvest, there are still many delicious things offered at the Hodag Farmers' Market. Today I'll talk about the canners.

Many of the vendors sell home canned goods when they have extra produce, but there are four groups that sell a wide variety of unique items.

Laurie's Apple Butter sells, you guessed it, apple butter. Well it's not just apple butter, they have a wide variety of flavored apple butters. They have seven different kinds of apple butter available including Crapple, a cranberry apple butter. If you can guess what the ingredients of Blunanapple you've earned yourself on pat on the back.

Carrie's Home Crafted Goods includes many jams made from rhubarb and raspberries. She's also well known for her beautiful and tasty Hot Pepper Jelly made with jalapenos. The little bits of peppers are suspended like confetti! The tomato salsa is another customer favorite. Carrie has also made jelly with sumac berries. Her newest creation is Spruce Tip Jelly; how many of you knew you could make jelly out of spruce tips?

Thornfield Acres often brings unusual jellies to the market. Their newest, Carrot Cake Jelly, uses carrot juice and spices. Their Apple Cranberry Jelly is wonderful, too. They also sell jellies made of flowers and mint leaves (the Orange Mint Jelly and Apple Blossom Jelly are wonderful!). The Hot Pickled Peppers always gives an air of mystery; some peppers are hotter than others.

Have you ever tasted Onion Marmalade? Forest Preserves uses many unusual produce to create awesome preserves. You'll have to check out her Rhubarb Rosemary. She also makes jellies out of sumac as well as flowers. If you are ever in the market for a simple syrup to make an adult beverage or Mocktail you must to try out some of her simple syrups. She also makes and sells kimchi. All of the vendors who bring canned goods to market follow the strict guidelines/rules implemented by the UW Home Extension. Check out even more unique items and homegrown produce at the Hodag Farmers' Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Pioneer Park.
