If you are an art lover or car/bike enthusiast, Rhinelander is the place to be on the second Saturday in June.

Art aficionados will have a plethora of pieces to peruse at the 32nd annual Art Fair on the Courthouse Lawn while a few blocks away car connoisseurs will be able to view a variety of classic vehicles at the 21st annual Second Saturday in June Car Show.

Both events will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 9 in the city's courthouse district.

The art show, which will feature over 100 vendors with pieces ranging from paintings to metal works, wood works, textiles and more, will take place on the courthouse lawn.

Organizers say there will be several new exhibitors this year, including Wisconsin authors, the Northwoods Turners Club's lathe-turned wood items, new jewelry, all-natural beeswax products and more.

"The biggest draw to the Art Fair is the huge variety of crafts and art that people see," said Lauren Sackett, event and program coordinator at the Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce. "From metal art to woodworking and doll clothes to batiks, you really get to see a little bit of everything."

The Rhinelander Lions Club will be selling brats, burgers and hot beef throughout the day. Other food vendors include The Almond Tree, which sells candied nuts, and Egg Rolls and More, which will have fried rice and egg rolls. SB Concessions will be selling gyros.

In addition to art and food, the Rhinelander Community Band will perform from 10 a.m. to noon on the northern part of Oneida Avenue in front of the courthouse.

"The Second Saturday in June has be come the weekend to be in Rhinelander," Sackett said. "The Art Fair, Car Show and Bikes & Burgers events offer residents and visitors a great weekend that has something for everyone. The continued partnerships between the events are fantastic and each year we see new growth."

If the weather is favorable, Sackett said the three events could bring anywhere from 2,500 to 5,000 people to the courthouse district.

Exhibitors can register up until June 8, but earlier is better. Because the show is juried, exhibitors are required to submit pictures to verify that all items are handmade.

Car show

Tarsie Goes, co-coordinator of the Second Saturday in June Car Show, is anticipating there will be over 100 registered vehicles on display this year on Baird Avenue.

She thinks a big draw to the event is the location near the courthouse.

"Being in Baird and near the Art Show has allowed us to have an area ready for growth," Goes said. "The room to mingle is great for the spectators and safe for the viewers and the vehicles."

There will be a free icy sno-cones and fresh bags of buttered popcorn at St. Mark Lutheran Church and a clown will be walking around the art show handing out balloons to children.

Other draws include the pancake breakfast at the Masonic Lodge and, of course, the variety of vehicles from classics, hot rod, Model T, muscle, ice racers and more.

Attendees can vote for their favorite vehicle. Owners can win Driver and People Choice trophies, Mayor's Choice, Best of Show, Best Paint, and more.

For those interested entering a vehicle in the show, vehicle registration is 7 a.m. the day of the show. The event will be held rain or shine.

The owners of the first 100 preregistered cars will receive a car show T-shirt and goodie bag. Car registration is $10 in advance or $15 day of the show.

Bikes and Burgers

The second annual Bikes and Burgers event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Motorcycles of all makes, models and ages will line the streets of downtown Rhinelander and area businesses will be grilling burgers.

For example, CT's Deli will be making the V Twin Burger, which is a burger brisket, and The Rhinelander Pub will be cooking up a Cowboy Burger complete with bacon and cheddar.

Organizers are hoping to build on last year's event which drew 60 bikes.

To register a bike into the event, go to Northland Music Center, Denim and Leather Exchange or register on Saturday. The fee is $5 per bike and caps at $20.

"If they have four bikes it costs them $20, if they have five bikes it costs them $20 as well," Will Roffers, co-chair of the event, explained.

"It's an event that attracts people to the downtown to see the new stores, the new beautification, the new sidewalks, it's also bringing people in from the car show and the craft fair, so it's kind of like 'Make Rhinelander your destination because it's a little bit for everyone,'" said Rhonda Jicinsky, DRI board member.

The streets will be closed so alcohol can be carried on the streets within a barricaded area with wristbands.

Wristbands can be found at the local bars for free.

Live music will be performed by NOLIUM from noon to 3 p.m.
