LAKE TOMAHAWK - After starting the season 0-3, the Lake Tomahawk Snowhawks won back-to-back games and had a chance to get back to .500 on Monday against the Coaching All-Stars.

Snowshoe baseball is typically an offensively-dominated game, but this game was a low-scoring defensive struggle for the majority of the night.

The Coaching All-Stars did most of its damage early in the game, scoring five runs in the first two innings, but were then largely blanked for the duration as the Snowhawks prevailed, 13-6.

"It was a real close game at first, but we started getting some timely hits," Lake Tomahawk manager Jeff Smith said. "Against this club you have to hit the ball because they're a good hitting team. We had a couple double plays that took them out of the game, but the hits were what did it tonight."

Jacob Hodgdon, Mike Wilhelm and Dominic Caroselli each scored runs in the top of the first inning to give the Coaching All-Stars a 3-0 lead, but Lake Tomahawk had an answer in the second.

Brent Cella, Dustin Schowalter and Billy Kuckkahn scored for the Snowhawks to tie the game at three apiece. Wilhelm and Wade Wetland scored in the third as the Coaches regained the lead, 5-3, but the Snowhawks surged in the third with a five-run inning and never looked back.

Nick Merckx, Paul Miller, Ryan Schowalter, Derek Young and Cole Punches scored before Cella hit an inning-ending home run.

Dustin Schowalter, Merckx and Kuckkahn scored in the seventh to put the game away.

"There's a lot of good sticks there and we couldn't take them lightly," Smith said. "So we had to play them tough the whole game. I always expected them to come back with four or five runs in an inning. I really thought they were gonna do it and we just got a timely out."

Dakota See scored in the eighth for the Coaches but the rally ended there as Lake Tomahawk picked up its third straight win.

Smith went 3 for 5, as did Young, Merckx and Todd Niemuth, while Miller was 4 for 5 for the Snowhawks, who are now rolling through their schedule.

"I think the confidence is starting to build amongst some of the players and they're starting to get their hits," Smith said. "We're coming together as a team better and that's what I like to see. Everyone is having a little more fun now. If we can continue to do that, we should be OK the rest of the year."

Caroselli and Wilhelm each went 4 for 5 for the Coaching All-Stars.

Lake Tomahawk (3-3) will face WPS 420 this Monday night at 7:30 p.m.
