Ascension Medical Group to host free diabetic foot care programs
Ascension Medical Group will host three free educational programs on Diabetic Foot Care Thursday, July 26, in Rhinelander and Woodruff and Tuesday, July 31, in Eagle River.
"For those with diabetes, even ordinary problems can get worse and lead to serious complications," Andrea Dirksen, DPM, a podiatry specialist with Ascension Medical Group, said in a press release.
Foot problems most often happen when there is nerve damage, also called neuropathy. This can cause tingling, pain (burning or stinging), or weakness in the foot. It can also cause loss of feeling in the foot which often results in injuries occurring without the person realize it.
"Poor blood flow or changes in the shape of your feet or toes may also cause problems," said Darby Wehrley, DPM, also a podiatry specialist with Ascension Medical Group.
The Rhinelander program July 26 will be held in Conference Rooms 1 and 2 at Ascension St. Mary's Hospital from 5 to 6 p.m., at 2251 North Shore Drive.
The Woodruff program will also be held on July 26 in the Monticello Board Room at Howard Young Medical Center, part of Ascension, from 5 to 6 p.m., at 240 Maple Street.
The Eagle River program will be on July 31 in the Lobby Conference Room at Ascension Eagle River Hospital from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., at 201 East Hospital Road.
Each program will last approximately 20 minutes with a question and answer session of follow. Light refreshments will be provided.
