To Russia, with hate

To Russia, with hate
To Russia, with hate

Trump Derangement Syndrome has been on full display this week after the president's summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki.

On one level, one would expect the president to be commended by the press and at least by his own party for reaching out to an incredibly important adversary and, by strengthening lines of communication, making the world a little safer.

Instead, he was called treasonous by many, including many commentators. It was classic Trump Derangement Syndrome.

A few points are in order.

First, there's no doubt the president made a mistake when he rebuffed his own intelligence community and said there was no reason Russia would interfere in our elections, a remark he has since tried to walk back. He has tried to walk it back because he was wrong, and on this score the intelligence community was right.

That said, the president has real reason not to trust our intelligence agencies, which have proven to be biased against him and in the tank for the Deep State. Average Americans shouldn't trust them either.

As Sen. Rand Paul pointed out the other day, the intelligence community ginned up the entire collusion-with-Russia bit. James Clapper helped to start it, Paul reminded us - you remember Clapper, the guy who lied to the Senate when he said the NSA wasn't collecting our personal information, while all the while that is exactly what they were doing.

And then there's former CIA director John Brennan, who accused the president of treason. This is the same Brennan who voted for the Communist Party as a young man, who is and has been an Obama loyalist, and who provided the information to start the Russia-collusion investigation in the first place.

Nothing partisan there, eh? The truth is, the intelligence community has a history of lying to the American people when they want to undermine someone or cover up something. That Trump looks at them warily as they try to fabricate a lie against him to delegitimize his election is not unreasonable.

And that's what the Russia hoax is all about. Nobody falls for it except deranged Democrats and NeverTrumpers in denial. Russia didn't defeat Hillary Clinton - Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton.

Of course Russia did meddle in the election. But within this point, there is a subpoint: America meddles in elections, too. This newspaper ran a story about a U.S. government report, which outlined our government's meddling in other nations' elections, including in Israel, and even the New York Times earlier this year pointed out this unsettling fact in a moment of lucidity.

Here's how the New York Times reported it: "'If you ask an intelligence officer, did the Russians break the rules or do something bizarre, the answer is no, not at all,' said Steven L. Hall, who retired in 2015 after 30 years at the C.I.A., where he was the chief of Russian operations. The United States 'absolutely' has carried out such election influence operations historically, he said, 'and I hope we keep doing it.'"

Well, if you live in glass houses - but we don't see the Left screaming about this meddling or to get our own house in order.

So let's get it straight. Everybody meddles in elections. Everybody knows everybody meddles in elections, and, with a few exceptions, nobody is really very successful.

But what is left out of all this Leftist-Media handwringing is the positive things about Helsinki. Indeed, as Paul pointed out to CNN's Wolf Blitzer, engagement with our adversaries is a good idea. As Paul noted, Russia has influence in Syria, they're in close proximity to troops in Syria, they are close to the peninsula of North Korea and may have influence that could help us there.

Historically, Kennedy helped end the Cold War by reaching out to Khrushchev, and remember that in 2012 Obama whispered a secret message for Putin into then Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's ear, unaware the microphone was live.

Obama, who was running for re-election, told Medvedev it was important for incoming President Putin to "give me space" on missile defense and other difficult issues and that after the 2012 presidential election he would have more flexibility.

"On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this can be solved, but it's important for him to give me space," Obama told Medvedev.

So Obama was trying to go behind the people's back to negotiate with this meddling regime. Just like the federal government's intelligence agencies, he didn't want the American people to know what he was really doing.

That's something Trump doesn't do. He had the courage to stand up and call out his biased intelligence agencies, whether he was right or wrong about their specific assessment.

That's more patriotic than going behind the American peoples' backs to try and negotiate secretly with a hostile regime, and yet it is Trump who is deemed a traitor.

Funny, we didn't hear John Brennan call Obama a traitor. Oh that's right, he was Obama's CIA director and a political supporter of Obama's since 2008.

There are three groups - globalists all - who did not like this trip. One is Democrats, liberal leftists and other assorted whack jobs, all of whom will latch onto any made-up issue to try and delegitimize Trump, whether it's harmful to national security and world peace or not.

Then there is their equivalent in the GOP - the NeverTrumpers like John McCain who would rather have had Hillary in the White House if it meant blocking Trump.

The final faction are the Republic neoconservatives, or, as Paul calls them, the pro-war Republicans. They really don't take this Russia nonsense seriously, but if it helps to get us in a war, they are all for it.

All of these groups should scare the American people. The war wing could start a major world war, and will do so if they can. The NeverTrumpers will gladly help them, if it means seeing their nemesis go down in flames to save globalist governance.

Just think what the Supreme Court would look like after Hillary got two quick picks. But that doesn't bother the NeverTrumpers.

And the Democrats, they are all on board with destabilizing world peace if it likewise means bringing down the president. Remember, American wars have generally been started by Democrats, including Viet Nam, and, until the neocons moved lock, stock, and barrel into the Republican Party, they were America's true war party.

For the sake of national sovereignty, for the sake of peace, for the sake of a safer world, it's time to give a tip of the hat to our president, and thank him for the multiple efforts he is doing to make the world safer for us, our children, and our grandchildren.

He's not perfect, but his enemies are downright scary.
