McKenzie hopes new counseling business will fill need in Rhinelander
By Kayla Thomason-
McKenzie is dual licensed as an MS, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC). She works with people age 12 and up and specializes in treating anxiety, depression, PTSD and trauma, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, ADD/ADHD, addictions, marriage counseling, individual therapy, faith-based counseling and more.
She has experience with corrections, social services and group therapy and is hoping to add group counseling services.
McKenzie said she decided to open her business in Rhinelander in an effort to reduce the waiting time for counseling services in this area.
"There's not enough counseling services available for people," she said. "People can wait (a long time to see someone). An average is a month or more for services," she said, adding that a month or more can be too long for those in a crisis situation or just coming out of a crisis situation.
"I saw a big need for it in Rhinelander, " she said.
Hours of operation at Phoenix Counseling are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but McKenzie can work later by appointment.
