Coach Ryan Clark knows the formula for the Rhinelander High School girls' basketball team to be successful - and it hinges on guards Ally Seefeldt, Kenedy Van Zile and Brooke Mork filling up the scorebook.

"Ally and Kenedy have to score around 40 and Brooke has to be in the teens. Those three need to score around 55 and then everyone else has to sprinkle in shots and help us out," he said.

That's almost exactly what happened Friday night as the Lady Hodags jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 67-49 win over Mosinee at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.

Seefeldt scored 18 of her game-high 23 points in the opening half as the Hodags took a 33-17 lead at the break. Van Zile had 10 points in each half to finish with 20 and Mork scored 10 of her 12 points in the second half.

The win moves Rhinelander to 6-1 in the Great Northern Conference, a half-game behind Lakeland in the standings with a rematch looming this Friday in Minocqua.

"Good win. It's the second time around in conference, so they know us a little bit better," Clark said. "We knew they were going to try different things and scout us but, overall, it was a nice team win for us."

Friday's game had more flow than the Lady Hodags' 76-66 win in Mosinee Dec. 1 in which they got to the free throw line 41 times.

Clark said the rematch was played at a pace more suited to Rhinelander's uptempo style.

"I think our pressure and speed got to them right away," he said. "We were able to get the pace going right away."

Rhinelander pushed the lead to 20 early in the second half. Mosinee eventually whittled the lead down to 10 before Clark spent a timeout and made an adjustment to the offense that helped push the lead back to 17.

"They switched to a couple of different zones and tried to pack it in a little bit and we still forced some 3s," he explained. "We didn't attack it very well, but then we got Molly Wagler to start cutting to the middle and then we hit Molly and she found the backside cutter for some easy layups. That got us settled again."

Megan Priest led Mosinee with 15 points in defeat.

The Hodags are off tonight, but return to action later this week with a tough back-to-back stretch against Stevens Point and Lakeland.

"The two best teams left on our schedule are back-to-back this week.," he said. "Thursday, I don't know if we can beat SPASH, but we're going to try to compete with them. Hopefully that game's a good prep for Lakeland. They play a different style, but we're going to be a quick, fast pace on Thursday against SPASH and then Friday's going to be a battle.

"No one has beaten Lakeland yet (in conference) and their a tough team. At least we get a shot. We've put ourselves in position to make this an important game. We'll be ready and excited for it."
