The Northern Edge registered their third shutout of the season, outshot the Raiders 45-10 and - more importantly to coach Kevin Sandstrom - played a complete three periods of hockey.
"We talked about looking for that complete, start-to-finish team win," he said. "We talked about not taking an opponent light, coming and executing and that's what we did."
The Edge spread the wealth around. Ellen Padgett and Payton Bunnell each scored twice, but the Edge had seven different players score and eight other players receive credit for assists.
"All 15 players on the roster are on the scoresheet," Sandstrom said. "You talk about team effort and team win, I don't know if that's a first or not, but it's a first in my career where every single player who saw the ice got at least a point. Really awesome. It's a nice vibe and hopefully it's something big moving forward with our next game coming up on Monday."
The Edge got things going 7:18 into the first period as Padgett scored off assists from Jade Forster and Kourtney Carrico. Bunnell scored on the power play two minutes later and Evelyn LeVeque added a goal with 2:08 remaining in the period to take a 3-0 lead.
Rhinelander/Antigo added a barrage late in the second period as Bunnell scored her second at the 11:05 mark, Gwen Frederickson cashed in on the power play at 13:37 and Antigo freshman Haley Thom scored her first career goal one minute later.
"We talked about her being in the right place at the right time all year and she's finally able to get one home," Sandstrom said of Thom. "Not only that, she got an assist from Bailey Novy. Both of them on the ice and both of them getting points."
Padgett scored again on the power play with 5:46 gone by in the third as goalie Alicia Turunen received credit for one of the two assists on the play. Nevaeh Forster scored her second of the season at the 18:38 mark and Jade Forster rounded out the scoring with a tally at 12:51.
One player who didn't score Tuesday night was defender Madi Losch, who came in with a team-best 12 goals on the season. She recorded three assists, however, which Sandstrom said was a more impressive stat line for the sophomore.
"What a team player. What an awesome player. It's a pleasure as a coach to get a player like that," he said.
Kourtney Carrico also was credited with three assists on the night. The line of Carrico, Ashley Adams and LeVeque played a hand in four of the team's nine goals on the evening.
Turunen was called on to make only 10 saves in her third shutout win of the season as the Edge held Medford's two main scoring threats - Emily Schafer and Joelle Zenner - in check most of the night.
"The defense as a whole, it was probably their best game," Sandstrom said. "Ellen and Jade, Madi and Gracie (Lenzner), they really held the offensive zone. They were aggressive. They weren't beat. We didn't give up odd-man situations."
The Edge (6-11-1, 2-2-0-1 Great Northern) will host Northland Pines in a GNC contest Monday at the Langlade County Multi-Purpose Building.
