The meet was highlighted by Jack Antonuk, 13, who posted state qualifying times in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.75) and 400 IM (4:51.64).
Additionally, two 8-year-old swimmers and one 11-year-old were the first in their age brackets to compete in some tough races, establishing Rhinelander Swim Club records in the process.
Ella Heck, 8, set a new time in the 100 breaststroke (1:46.36) Drayke Arrowood, 8, swam the 500 freestyle (10:18.93) and Zachariah King, 11, swam the 1,000 freestyle to create a record with his time of 14:41.02.
"As we near the end of the season, the kids are setting some wonderful goals for themselves," RSC coach Megan Cihla said. "They are looking towards the big meets - State and Minnesota Regionals - both meets that require certain time standards. It's fun having my swimmers constantly ask what certain cuts are, compare their times to these cuts, and get excited when they realize how close they are to achieving that time.
"What impresses me the most with the RSC swimmers, is no matter how excited they get over their own performance, they are always congratulating and encouraging each other. The sportsmanship I see among our athletes, and our athletes towards athletes from other teams, is the best for me. Coaching fast kids is good, but coaching nice, sincere, and enthusiastic kids is what keeps me coaching each year! There is so much more to this sport than just winning races."
Christopher Larson, Samson Shinners and Noelle St Pierre posted time drops of 10 seconds or greater during the Medford meet. Jack Antonuk, Tessa Baker, Claire Caselton, Kristofer Harris, Elena Larson, Caleb Luce, Eli Lundt, Sarah Marshall, Phoebe Moran and Evelyn Simonsen improved by more than five seconds in at least one event.
Collin Jorata, 5, made his RSC debut, competing in his first-ever meet last Saturday.
The club hosts is Freezin Season Invitational today at the Heck Family Community Pool. The meet starts at 10 a.m. and there is no admission charge.
