Lions serve hundreds on 30th anniversary of Christmas Not Alone program
By Kayla Thomason-
Lions' chairman Sandy Mode felt the cold weather might have had an impact on attendance but noted that nearly 300 meals were served.
Volunteers prepared 280 meals, 143 of which were deliveries, Mode said.
"The Lions are very thankful for the over 75 people that volunteered to help with setup, preparing the food, serving, making deliveries and cleanup," said Mike Romportl, club member. "Without the community volunteers it would not be possible for the Lions Club to sponsor the dinner."
The Lions and volunteers prepared 30 turkeys, including dressing, potatoes, vegetables and a variety of pies.
"We could not do this without all the volunteers," Mode said, adding that the annual dinner, which celebrated its 30th anniversary this year, would not take place without many other contributions from the community.
"The Rhinelander Lions thanks Trig's for baking the turkeys, Nativity of our Lord for the use of the kitchen to prepare the fixings and the use of Kohlbeck Hall to serve the meal," Romportl said. "In addition many thanks to the businesses and individuals that donated money to help offset the cost of the meal. It was again very heartwarming to see family and friends gather for the dinner and the Lions look forward to sponsoring the dinner next year."
