Demmer Library still seeking book foster volunteers
Director Erica Brewster invites the public to participate in the building renovation.
"We know a lot of people are interested in lending a helping hand while the library is updated for the 21st Century," Brewster said in a press release. "One way they can get involved is to take home some of our books for the construction period, keep them safe, and bring them back to us when we are ready to move in."
Items available for fostering are limited to physical books; DVDs and books on CD will not be available for fostering. The renovation is expected to last from late March through December 2018. The books fostered will each be checked out to the volunteer with a due date of Jan. 15, 2019. Should this date need to be changed, volunteers will be contacted with updated return dates.
"A large, sturdy, sealable plastic tote will be required to store books to avoid water damage," the release states. "Fostering up to 100 books may require more than one plastic tote. While in your care, these books will be available to you, but may not be loaned to anyone outside your home. You may choose the books you foster yourself. Several dozen volunteers have already applied, but there is still room for more! Once construction is completed, volunteers will be contacted to arrange the return of their foster collection."
