Oh my gosh! Arbor Vitae-Woodruff's weekly Musky Minute recently had a host change.

Charlie Berens, of the popular Manitowoc Minute comedy videos, took over this week's Musky Minute, reading and recording the weekly activities after his Feb. 9 show at Rhinelander High School.

"Each week, the Musky Minute, produced by (district administrator Jocelyn) Smith, is filmed and features our students talking about the upcoming week," fourth grade teacher Susan Jurries explained. "This gives our students a chance to use their courage, which is a core value that AV-W embraces in our school. It also gives students the experience of speaking in public, many times stepping out of their comfort zones."

The Musky Minute is a direct parody of Berens' Manitowoc Minute.

Two students read the Musky Minute in Berens' witty, fast-paced style of comedy about a month ago and when Jurries saw Berens would be hosting a live show and meet-and-greet at Rhinelander High School, she sent him the video.

"I had asked him if he would be willing to read a quick announcement for our school, and he agreed," Jurries explained. "So, we bought VIP meet-and- greet tickets, and a bunch of us went to see him."

Jurries said she had written Berens a script and allowed him to add child-appropriate jokes.

"He read through it quickly at the end of the meet-and-greet, and then we filmed," Jurries said. "When he read the script and did our video, we were absolutely dying with laughter."

Berens said the decision to read the Musky Minute was an easy one.

"I was inspired by the broadcasting talents of two students at AV-W," Berens expressed. "When I heard the Musky Minute needed a fill-in anchor ... let's just say they had me at musky."

However, the video, featuring Berens in a "It's a great day to be a Musky" T-shirt, did not get the immediate greenlight as district administrator Jocelyn Smith had small concerns about a few of the jokes.

"Tierney Edwards, a kindergarten teacher at our school, edited it and made a student-friendly version to show for our weekly announcements," Jurries explained.

The video has been extremely popular with not only the AV-W community, but the surrounding areas.

"I had no idea that so many people would watch and post the video, but I certainly understand, as it is extremely funny," Jurries said.

The video can be found on AV-W's Facebook page as well as The Lakeland Times' Facebook page.

As Berens says, keep 'er movin' and it's a great day to be a musky.
